Eliminating the need for structural steel
With the exception of select feature posts, traditional structural steel simply wasn’t needed thanks to a nimble, comprehensive and cost-effective steel lightweight steel framing solution delivered by CMG Frames.
This modular approach significantly simplified the structural system, and streamlined installation, while maintaining performance and design integrity in the construction of The Discovery Tree‘s childcare facility.
Bright, open spaces perfect for childcare
Lightweight steel allowed for large window openings and expansive glazed areas, letting natural light pour in. This increased light penetration strengthens the connection between indoor and outdoor environments.
Careful engineering ensured these openings were achieved without compromising structural stability or efficiency. By removing the reliance on structural steel, the project benefited from reduced costs, faster installation, and improved coordination across trades.
The result is a highly efficient and well-resolved childcare facility, demonstrating how lightweight framing systems can support both architectural ambition and practical construction outcomes.
